Part of the St. Catharines - Niagara metropolitan area, Elgin is a neighbourhood within Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Transportation

Walking is feasible for house buyers in Elgin; running daily errands is convenient without the need to get in a vehicle. This neighbourhood is also fairly amenable to cycling. The car is often the favoured approach to move around in Elgin. It is easy to park, and it is a rather short drive to the closest highway, such as Highway 420, from anywhere in Elgin. On the other hand, this area is not especially transit friendly. Nevertheless, residents are served by the Niagara Falls on the Lakeshore West. There are around 10 bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and the closest bus stop is usually very close by.

Services

Both primary and secondary schools are very easy to access on foot from most homes for sale in Elgin. At the elementary level, both public and private schools can be found. On the other hand, daycares are not plentiful and consequently may require a very long stroll to get to. With respect to eating, some, but not all, house buyers in Elgin will live within walking distance of the closest grocery store. There are also around 30 restaurants and coffee shops in Elgin.

Character

Elgin is a very good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed environment. There are approximately 10 green spaces close by for residents to enjoy, such as Millennium Recreational Trail - Niagara Falls Lions Legacy Pathway and Oakes Park, and they are especially well-situated, making them easy to reach. This part of the city is very quiet overall, as the streets tend to be very peaceful.

Housing

The proportions of renters and homeowners are about even. In this area, about 55% of buildings are single detached homes, and the rest of the homes are mainly large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and duplexes. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood occurred pre-1960. This part of Niagara Falls has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
