Vinegar Hill

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Vinegar Hill is a neighbourhood within Markham, Ontario.

Transportation

Driving is a great transportation option in this area. Nearby highways, such as Highway 407, are especially easy to reach from anywhere in this part of the city, and it is very convenient to access a place to park. In contrast, the public transit network in Vinegar Hill is fairly poor. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and most homes are very close to a bus stop. Walking in this part of Markham is not very popular, although running daily errands is convenient on foot. On the other hand, Vinegar Hill is reasonably cycling-friendly.

Services

A fraction of house buyers in this neighbourhood may be able to reach the closest supermarket on foot, while others will have to use another means of transportation. Concerning education, it is a rather short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from any location in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, it can be challenging to get to daycares as a pedestrian.

Character

One of the highlights of Vinegar Hill is its great variety of green spaces. Parks are very well-situated and there are a few of them nearby for residents to explore, which makes it very easy to reach them. As there are very few people out and about on the streets, this part of the city is relatively quiet.

Housing

In Vinegar Hill, around two thirds of dwellings are single detached homes, while duplexes make up most of the remaining housing stock. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 90% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 10% are renters. About 30% of properties in this part of Markham were constructed in the 1980s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1990s.
