Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in Rural Pickering. It is especially convenient to access a place to park. It is at times challenging to commute by bicycle in this area since the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive, and the topography is not particularly flat. This part of Pickering is also not very suitable for those who prefer to get around as pedestrians because meeting daily needs is very inconvenient without a car.

Services

High schools and primary schools are not plentiful in this neighbourhood, and thus not always within a short distance. Additionally, families may find it very difficult for their children to access daycares by walking. As far as food is concerned, a vehicle is almost always needed in Rural Pickering to reach the nearest grocery store.

Character

The character of Rural Pickering is exemplified by its calm environment. This area is good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case near the railway line or Highway 407. Finally, it is easy to reach public green spaces and there are a few of them close by for residents to explore.

Housing

Around 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters. The housing stock of this area is composed predominantly of single detached homes and row houses. Roughly half of properties in this neighbourhood were built after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
