Portlands

The neighbourhood of Portlands can be found in the city of Toronto, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Regardless of the medium of transportation, it is convenient to travel in Portlands. With a few nearby bus lines, the public transit system in this part of Toronto is accessible. It is also convenient for people travelling on foot to move around in Portlands; many daily needs can be met by walking, and a good number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Portlands is a very pleasant part of Toronto for bike riders. In particular, bike-share stations are never more than a short walk away, and the cycling network is reasonably well-developed.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a rather short walk away in this neighbourhood. Likewise, there is usually a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. As far as education is concerned, in Portlands, parents and their kids will often be able to access daycares and primary schools by walking. However, this neighbourhood does not have any high schools.

Character

Portlands offers a wonderful selection of green spaces to enjoy, as well as some areas with a vibrant ambience. To be more specific, there are approximately 20 green spaces nearby for residents to unwind in, including Tommy Thompson Park and City Wide Open Space, making them very easy to get to. At the same time, the majority of streets have sub-par tree coverage. Finally, this part of Toronto is relatively quiet, since there are very few pedestrians; however noise levels are higher closer to the railway line, Don Valley Parkway or F G Gardiner Expressway.

Housing

Townhouses are the most common housing type, representing most dwellings in Portlands, while the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. This area offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly two thirds of the units in Portlands while the remainder are rented. This part of Toronto experienced its main construction boom before the 1960s, so most of the available housing stock is from this time period.
