Located within the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Playter Estates is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario.

Transportation

No matter the means of transportation, it is very convenient to move around in Playter Estates. Thanks to 2 rapid transit stations (Broadview Station - Eastbound Platform and Broadview Station - Westbound Platform) on the Line 2 (Bloor - Danforth), and a few nearby bus lines, Playter Estates is very transit friendly. Playter Estates is also an extremely pleasant part of Toronto for pedestrians; running common errands is very easy on foot, and many businesses are close by. A large number of people in the area use their bicycle as there is generally a bike-share station nearby, and Playter Estates features a good cycling infrastructure.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in this part of the city. Furthermore, this neighbourhood is a good place in which to go out to eat or go to a cafe, for instance along Danforth Avenue. As far as education is concerned, it is a very short walk to get to daycares and schools from most houses for sale in Playter Estates. At the elementary level, there are both public and private schools.

Character

Playter Estates has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Playter Estates is reasonably quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue, although there are still several noisier areas, especially closer to Don Valley Parkway or the railway line. Greenery is reasonably present in this neighbourhood; parks, like Lower Don Parklands, are especially well-spread out and there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover, making them very easy to reach. Residents will also find that many tree-lined streets are prominent. Finally, there are numerous things to do in this part of Toronto to discover. Even though there are few nearby entertainment venues, there are often a large number of people around, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located very close by. Main streets, including Danforth Avenue, are excellent for those who enjoy going out.

Housing

Large apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing around half of dwellings in Playter Estates, and the remaining houses are mainly small apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses. This neighbourhood has a good selection of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and owners make up the remainder. About 45% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed prior to the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s.
