Orono

Orono is a neighbourhood within Clarington, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent transportation option in this part of the municipality. It is especially convenient to park, and it is a very short car ride to the nearest highway, such as Highway 35 & 115, from anywhere in Orono. In contrast, this part of the municipality is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far from most residences. Orono is not especially bike-friendly because the cycling network is quite bad, and the area is not very flat. Orono is also not very conducive to those who travel by foot as very few common errands can be run without a vehicle.

Services

Primary schools are easy to get to as a pedestrian from most houses for sale in this area. However, Orono does not contain any high schools. When it comes to eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required in Orono to access the nearest supermarket. Nonetheless, pharmacies are typically very easy to get to as a pedestrian and sell some basic food items. There are also a few choices for those who care about restaurants within walking distance.

Character

Orono is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. Orono is reasonably quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although that is not the case close to Highway 35 & 115.

Housing

Orono experienced its largest construction boom pre-1960, so most of the available properties are from this time period. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. Homeowners occupy around 85% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood and 15% are rented. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
