Mile Square

Part of the Greater Kingston metropolitan area, Mile Square is a neighbourhood within Kingston, Ontario.

Transportation

The favoured approach to move around in this part of the city is usually a car. It is very convenient to come across a parking spot. However, public transit riders may experience limited choices in this part of the city due to the service's low frequency. Nevertheless, house owners are served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most residences. Biking is convenient in this neighbourhood because the terrain is reasonably flat. Mile Square is not very conducive to those who prefer to get around on foot as few daily errands can be run without a car.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required in Mile Square to reach the closest supermarket. Nonetheless, it is generally a rather short trip to the nearest pharmacy, which can provide some staple foods. Residents are served by a few restaurants and coffee shops as well. In terms of education, in this area, parents and their children will typically be able to access schools and daycares as pedestrians.

Character

The character of Mile Square is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This area is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, accessing public green spaces from many locations in the neighbourhood, like McCullough Park (West), is easy since there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Mile Square is an important part of its character. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. This part of the city experienced its most significant building boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available properties are from this era.
