Stoney Creek

Stoney Creek is a former municipality within Hamilton, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are a very good means of transportation in Stoney Creek. Many houses for sale are a rather short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Red Hill Valley Parkway, and it is easy to come across a parking spot. On the other hand, the public transit system in Stoney Creek is rather poor. Nonetheless, the former municipality is linked by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most homes. Stoney Creek is not especially appropriate for cycling because the bicycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and the area is not particularly flat. This part of Hamilton is also not particularly conducive to those who travel by foot since meeting daily needs is sometimes difficult on foot.

Services

In Stoney Creek, families will usually be able to access primary schools and daycares by walking. In contrast, high schools are not particularly plentiful and consequently not always within walking distance. Residents can choose between public and private primary schools. In terms of food, a portion of property owners in Stoney Creek may be able to access one of about 20 supermarkets on foot, while others will have to turn to a vehicle. A limited selection of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well.

Character

The character of Stoney Creek is exemplified by its calm environment. Most areas in this part of the city are reasonably quiet, as the streets are usually peaceful - although there are still several noisier areas, especially around one of the railway lines, Red Hill Valley Parkway, Queen Elizabeth Way or the airport (Stoney Creek Airport). Finally, the majority of locations within the former municipality have good access to green spaces, such as Maplewood Park and Winona Park, since there are over 50 of them nearby for residents to explore and getting to the closest park is very easy from many homes.

Housing

In Stoney Creek, the majority of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest of the properties are mainly large apartment buildings. This area offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 80% of the properties in Stoney Creek whereas the remainder are rented. About 30% of properties in this area were constructed following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
