Shaver

The neighbourhood of Shaver can be found in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent transportation option in this area. It is especially convenient to park, and nearby highways, such as Highway 403, are very easy to access from any home in Shaver. On the other hand, commuting by public transit is challenging in Shaver. Nevertheless, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. This neighbourhood is not very amenable to cycling because the bicycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and cyclists encounter a considerable amount of elevation changes. Thankfully, a few pleasant pockets for bicycling exist. Travelling on foot is also not very practical for residents in Shaver because carrying out daily needs is impractical.

Services

It is a rather short walk to reach both primary and secondary schools from anywhere in Shaver. Parents are served by public and private high schools. However, it can be difficult to get to daycares as a pedestrian. As far as food is concerned, getting to the closest grocery store by walking is an option for some, but not all, property owners in Shaver. Residents of Shaver benefit from a few restaurants as well.

Character

There is a wide variety of green spaces in Shaver. Public green spaces, like James Smith Park, are especially well-distributed and there are a few of them close by for residents to relax in, making them easy to reach. It is relatively calm in this area, thanks to the presence of very few pedestrians.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing about half of dwellings in Shaver, and the remaining homes are mainly duplexes. This part of Hamilton experienced its main building boom following the year 2000, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 90% of the dwellings in Shaver and 10% are rented.
