Southwest Cove

The community of Southwest Cove is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Southwest Cove is an extremely convenient part of Halifax for travelling by car. Parking is quite easy. The bike is a rather limited means of transportation in this part of Halifax as there are a good number of hills to challenge cyclists, and the cycling network is not very well-developed. Getting around on foot is also not very convenient for property owners in Southwest Cove since almost no common errands can be run without a car.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. With regards to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed to do groceries.

Character

The character of Southwest Cove is exemplified by its relaxed environment. Southwest Cove is wonderful for those who prefer quiet areas, as the streets are generally especially tranquil. Parks aren't well-spread out, making it very difficult to reach them.

Housing

The sizeable percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of Southwest Cove is an important part of its character. Around 30% of properties in this community were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s. This area offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 90% of the properties in the community are occupied by homeowners while the remainder are rented.
