The neighbourhood of Forest Hills can be found in the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Forest Hills is very car friendly. It is straightforward to come across a place to park. However, the public transit service in this area is not very frequent. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and it is especially convenient to get to a nearby bus stop from most houses. It is at times challenging for people travelling on foot to navigate Forest Hills since few daily needs can be carried out without needing to use a car. On the other hand, this part of Halifax is quite amenable to bicycling because there are a good number of bike lanes.

Services

The nearest supermarket in this part of the municipality is usually only a rather short walk away. There are also a few opportunities for those who appreciate restaurants and cafes in close proximity. With respect to education, in this part of the municipality, parents and their kids will generally be able to reach schools and daycares on foot.

Character

Forest Hills offers a calm ambience and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. This part of the municipality is especially quiet, as the streets are very tranquil. Lastly, public green spaces, such as Settle Lake Park and Cole Harbour Commons, are very well-distributed and there are about 10 of them nearby for residents to relax in, which makes them very easy to get to.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about half of dwellings in Forest Hills, but small apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This area experienced its biggest construction boom between 1960 and 1980, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 70% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 30% are rented.
