Situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Barkhouse Settlement is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Transportation
Barkhouse Settlement is an extremely good part of Halifax for travelling by car. It is very easy to park. It is very difficult for pedestrians to navigate Barkhouse Settlement as many daily needs are practically impossible to carry out without needing a car. The bicycle is a quite poor means of transportation in this area as there are a good number of elevation changes, and the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed.
Services
There are no high schools and no primary schools in Barkhouse Settlement. Regarding eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed in this part of Halifax to access the nearest supermarket.
Character
The character of Barkhouse Settlement is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. Barkhouse Settlement is great for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Parks aren't well-spread out, resulting in them being very difficult to get to from a large number of locations in the community.
Housing
A small minority of homes in Barkhouse Settlement were constructed prior to the 1960s. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character.
