Brookfield

Part of the Greater Truro metropolitan area, Brookfield is a neighbourhood within Colchester Subdivision C, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The best transportation option in Brookfield is very often a car. Most real estate listings are a reasonably short car ride from the nearest highway, and it is very convenient to find a place to park. It is very inconvenient for people walking to get around in this area as almost no common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle. Brookfield is also not very conducive to biking because there are a good number of hills to challenge cyclists, and this part of the subdivision of a county municipality has a quite poor bicycling infrastructure.

Services

It can be difficult to access high schools and primary schools on foot from homes for sale in Brookfield. Likewise, daycares are not very abundant and therefore not always within walking distance. Regarding food, in all cases, a car is needed to purchase groceries. Nonetheless, pharmacies are generally convenient to reach on foot and sell some staple foods. A limited variety of cafes can be found as well.

Character

Brookfield is fairly good for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case close to the railway line.

Housing

Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in Brookfield. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 85% of the properties in Brookfield and 15% are occupied by renters. About one third of properties in this area were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
