Grand Lake

The community of Grand Lake is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Cars are a great medium of transportation in Grand Lake. It is especially convenient to come across a place to park. The bicycle is a fairly poor mode of transportation in this part of Halifax because bicycle riders are faced with a considerable amount of elevation changes, and the cycling network is not very comprehensive. Grand Lake is also not very suitable for those who travel by foot since running common errands is practically impossible.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Grand Lake. In terms of food, house buyers in this part of the municipality almost always have to turn to a vehicle to access the nearest grocery store.

Character

Grand Lake is quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Public green spaces are spread out sporadically, which makes them rather difficult to reach from the majority of locations in the community. Despite that, there are a few parks nearby for residents to relax in.

Housing

Homeowners occupy roughly 95% of the units in Grand Lake while the rest are rented. The sizeable proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this community is an important part of its character. The buildings in this community are quite new, since around one third of its dwellings were constructed following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. Notably, this area is good for those looking for three bedroom homes.
