Grand Desert

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Grand Desert is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Grand Desert is especially car friendly. Accessing a parking spot is generally easy. A majority of the homes for sale in this community are located in places that are not very well-suited for pedestrians because running daily errands is almost impossible without a vehicle. Bicycling is also difficult in Grand Desert as there are a good number of hills, and there are very few bike lanes.

Services

Grand Desert does not have any high schools or primary schools. When it comes to eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed in this area to reach the nearest grocery store.

Character

Grand Desert offers a relaxed environment. Grand Desert is very good for those who enjoy quiet surroundings, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. It is occasionally challenging to reach green spaces since they aren't well-situated. Still, there are a few parks close by for residents to enjoy.

Housing

About one quarter of homes in Grand Desert were built following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. The sizeable proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this community is an important part of its character. Homeowners occupy roughly 85% of the units in Grand Desert and 15% are occupied by renters. This community is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
