Reserve Mines

The community of Reserve Mines is part of the municipality of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Cape Breton metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of Cape Breton is especially car friendly. Parking is quite easy. Reserve Mines is not very conducive to those who travel by foot as many daily needs are challenging to carry out without the use of a car.

Services

There are only a few primary schools in this part of the municipality and accordingly they can be an extended walk away. Additionally, this community does not have any high schools. Moreover, daycares are not abundant and therefore not always within walking distance. Concerning eating, it is very rarely feasible for property owners in Reserve Mines to buy groceries on foot. A small number of restaurants and coffee shops are available.

Character

Reserve Mines is quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several noisier areas, especially around the airport (YQY). Parks aren't well-distributed, resulting in them being occasionally hard to get to from most locations in the community. Despite that, there are a few green spaces nearby for residents to explore, such as Reserve Mines Legacy Park.

Housing

In Reserve Mines, the vast majority of buildings are single detached homes, but townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This community is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 80% of the units in the community and the rest are rented. About 40% of homes in this part of Cape Breton were constructed pre-1960, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
