Broughton

Broughton is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Cape Breton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is very often the favoured approach to move around in this community. It is very easy to access a parking spot. Broughton is not very suited for biking because there are a fair number of hills to challenge cyclists, and the cycling network is quite poor. Getting around by walking is also not very practical for property owners in this community because most daily needs are almost impossible to meet without the use of a vehicle.

Services

Property owners in Broughton almost always have to turn to a vehicle to do their groceries. When it comes to education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of the municipality.

Character

Broughton offers a relaxed atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Although the community is not home to any public green spaces, parks are especially well-located in nearby communities, which makes it very easy to reach them. This part of Cape Breton Municipality is also very quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic.

Housing

Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the dwellings in the community and the rest are rented. In this part of Cape Breton Municipality, the overwhelming majority of dwellings are single detached homes, while the remainder are mainly mobile homes. About one quarter of properties in this community were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This community is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
