The community of Bateston is part of the municipality of Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Cape Breton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are a great means of transportation in Bateston. It is very convenient to come across a parking spot. It is difficult to travel by bike in this community since there are a fair number of hills to challenge cyclists, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very well-developed. Bateston is also not very conducive to people who like to get around by foot because carrying out day-to-day needs is almost impossible without a car.

Services

Bateston does not have any high schools or primary schools. Concerning food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required to shop for groceries.

Character

Bateston offers a slower-paced ambience and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Although this community is not home to any parks, green spaces are well-spread out in nearby communities, which results in them being very easy to get to from a large number of locations in this community. This part of Cape Breton Municipality is also very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Bateston is an important part of its character. This area is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Nearly 95% of the population of this community own their home and 5% are renters. About one third of properties in this area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
