Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, New Waterford is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Driving is a fairly good mode of transportation in New Waterford. Coming across a place to park is quite easy. This community is not very amenable to bicycling as there are a good number of slopes for cyclists to brave, and the cycling network is fairly poor. Traveling as a pedestrian is also not particularly convenient for property owners in New Waterford because very few common errands can be run without the need to get in a car.

Services

It is a rather short walk to access daycares and high schools from anywhere in New Waterford. On the other hand, this area does not contain any primary schools. As far as eating is concerned, some, but not all, house buyers in this community will live within walking distance of the closest supermarket. That being said, it is easy to reach the closest coffee shop as a pedestrian, and a limited variety of restaurants can be found in New Waterford as well.

Character

The character of New Waterford is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This part of Cape Breton Municipality is very quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Lastly, access to public green spaces, such as Colliery Lands, is easy from most locations within the community since there are around 10 of them nearby for residents to discover.

Housing

Homeowners occupy roughly 70% of the properties in the community and the rest are rented. The housing stock of this part of the municipality is composed primarily of single detached homes and townhouses. Around 45% of properties in this community were constructed pre-1960, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s. This community has a good choice of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
