Stock Yards

The neighbourhood of Stock Yards is part of the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is situated in the Greater Winnipeg metropolitan area.

Transportation

The favoured way to navigate this neighbourhood is usually a car. It is especially convenient to park, and it is a short drive to the nearest highway from anywhere in Stock Yards. However, residents using public transit may experience limited options in Stock Yards by reason of the low service level. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is usually around the corner. Stock Yards will attract physically active home buyers since it is fairly suited for cycling. More precisely, riding a bicycle is facilitated by the generally flat terrain. Traveling as a pedestrian is not very practical for residents in Stock Yards as few daily errands can be run without a vehicle.

Services

In this area, parents and their kids will usually be able to reach daycares and schools as pedestrians. In terms of food, the closest grocery store in this area is generally only a short stroll away. A limited selection of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a slower-paced ambience will enjoy Stock Yards. There are a few green spaces nearby for residents to check out, including Art McOuat Memorial Park, and they are especially well-spread out, which results in them being easy to access from most locations in the neighbourhood. This area is also fairly good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are usually reasonably tranquil - although that is not the case around one of the railway lines.

Housing

About three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. About half of properties in this neighbourhood were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960. This part of Winnipeg is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
