Situated within the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Main is a neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Property owners in Main have several alternatives to get around without using a car. Main is especially suitable for walking; carrying out daily needs is very easy on foot, and plenty of businesses are quite nearby. A large number of residents in the area use their bicycle because there is always a bike-share station close by, and the cycling infrastructure is reasonably extensive. The good public transit infrastructure makes transit a viable option for many people. The neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. However, this part of the city is not especially car friendly as coming across a place to park is not very easy, and the majority of homes for sale are a very long drive from the closest highway.

Services

In this part of the city, parents and their schoolchildren will typically be able to access schools and daycares on foot. With respect to food, a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a short walk away in Main. Additionally, Main is a good place in which to eat out or go to a cafe. It is also easy to get to a variety of clothing stores on foot, for example on Main Street.

Character

Main has a character that caters to a fairly diverse group of people. Main is quiet, as the streets are quite tranquil. Green spaces are very easy to access since there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in. Lastly, overall, finding things to do is easy in this area. Although this part of Vancouver is not known for its nightlife, there are a large number of people around most of the time.

Housing

Over half of the housing stock of Main consists of small apartment buildings and duplexes, while the remainder are mainly single detached homes. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 55% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the remainder are rented. Roughly 40% of homes in this area were built before the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
