Westend

Westend is a neighbourhood within New Westminster, British Columbia, which is situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Westend will appeal to property owners that value a diversity of modes of transportation. This area is quite suitable for walking; many daily errands can be run without the use of a vehicle, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Westend is also reasonably conducive to biking since this neighbourhood has a fairly good cycling infrastructure. House buyers can rely on public transit to navigate Westend. In particular, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally very close. Westend is also quite car friendly. It is convenient to access a place to park, and it is a reasonably short drive to the nearest highway from any home in this neighbourhood.

Services

It is very easy to access the nearest supermarket by walking in this area. Furthermore, a restaurant is often just around the corner, for example on Twelfth Street. When it comes to education, schools and daycares are very easy to walk to from anywhere in Westend.

Character

The character of Westend is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. This part of New Westminster is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to unwind in and they are especially well-situated, making it easy to access them.

Housing

Over half of the housing stock of Westend consists of duplexes and single detached homes, and the remaining homes are mainly small apartment buildings. This part of the city has a good variety of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Around 60% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners while the remainder are rented. A majority of the housing growth in this part of the city occurred prior to the 1960s.
