Kirkstone is a neighbourhood within District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, which is situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Kirkstone is quite bicycling-friendly since there are a good number of bike lanes. Active home buyers will also be pleased with the walk-friendly nature of Kirkstone; many daily needs can be met by walking. The public transit network in this area is not particularly accessible. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. However, this part of the municipality is very car friendly. It is convenient to park, and many houses for sale are a very short drive from the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway.

Services

Families will find that wherever their home is located in Kirkstone, schools and daycares are nearby. With respect to eating, it is convenient to reach the nearest supermarket by walking from anywhere in this area. A limited variety of restaurants can be found in Kirkstone as well.

Character

Kirkstone offers a calm atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. There are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, like Kirkstone Park, and they are especially well-distributed, which makes it very easy to get to them from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood. The noise levels in this part of the municipality are also quite low, as the streets tend to be reasonably calm - although that is not the case around Trans-Canada Highway.

Housing

In Kirkstone, roughly 30% of buildings are small apartment buildings, while large apartment buildings and single detached homes are the main alternatives in the housing stock. This part of the municipality has a good selection of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly 60% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 40% are rented. About 40% of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1980s and the 2000s.
