Downtown

The neighbourhood of Downtown Victoria is part of the city of Victoria, British Columbia, which is located in the Greater Victoria metropolitan area.

Transportation

This neighbourhood is an excellent part of Victoria for eco-friendly transportation options. Downtown is very suitable for walking; all day-to-day errands can be run on foot, and many businesses are very nearby. Physically active people will also be pleased with the very bicycling-friendly character of this part of Victoria. More specifically, there are a good number of bike lanes. Thanks to about 30 nearby bus lines, this area is a very convenient part of Victoria for moving around by public transit. On the other hand, driving is a somewhat poor mode of transportation in this part of the city as it is a very long car ride to the closest highway from any location in Downtown, and it is at times challenging to find a place to park.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in this neighbourhood. Likewise, owing to over 150 restaurants and around 10 cafes, this neighbourhood is a fairly good area in which to eat out. When it comes to education, it is a short walk to get to schools and daycares from most properties for sale in this part of Victoria.

Character

Those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time outdoors will feel at home in Downtown. Finding energetic places in this area is very easy. Despite the fact that there is a narrow selection of entertainment venues, the streets are very often busy with people, and places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the area. It is very easy to reach parks in the neighbourhood since there are about 20 of them close by for residents to explore.

Housing

Most homes in Downtown were constructed following the year 2000, during its main building boom. The sizeable proportion of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of this part of the city is an important part of its character. Around three quarters of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters while owners occupy the remainder. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes.
