Situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Big Bend is a neighbourhood within Burnaby, British Columbia.

Transportation

Regardless of the medium of transportation, it is quite straightforward to travel in Big Bend. Driving is usually the favoured transportation option in Big Bend. It is especially convenient to park. Thanks to a few nearby bus lines, the public transit system in this neighbourhood is also good. There aren't many pedestrians out on the streets of this part of Burnaby, although many common errands can be run without having to resort to a vehicle. In contrast, cycling is easy in Big Bend since the bicycling network is quite well-developed.

Services

Reaching the nearest supermarket on foot is practical for some, but not all, property owners in this neighbourhood. A small selection of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well. With regards to education, primary schools are easy to walk to from anywhere in this part of the city. However, it can be challenging to access high schools on foot.

Character

Big Bend offers a slower-paced ambience and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. This part of the city is quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite noisy, especially near one of the railway lines. Finally, there are approximately 10 green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, like Marshland Avenue Bog Forest and Byrne Creek Ravine Park, and they are very well-located, which makes them very easy to access.

Housing

In Big Bend, about one third of buildings are single detached homes, while duplexes make up most of the remaining housing stock. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Around two thirds of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners while the remainder are rented. The buildings in this neighbourhood are quite new, because about one third of its dwellings were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
