Homestead

Homestead is a neighbourhood within Calgary, Alberta, which is situated in the Greater Calgary metropolitan area.

Transportation

Moving around by car is very easy in Homestead. The street infrastructure is fairly amenable to driving, and it is especially convenient to park. In contrast, the public transit system in Homestead is not very practical. This area is not very well-suited for people who get around on foot as very few common errands can be run without a car. Commuting by bicycle is also challenging in this neighbourhood because the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and there are a fair number of elevation changes.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this area. Likewise, parents may find it very hard for their kids to get to daycares by foot. With respect to eating, house buyers in Homestead almost always have to use a car to reach the nearest supermarket.

Character

There is a wide variety of green spaces in Homestead. Although the neighbourhood is not home to any green spaces, parks are sparse in nearby neighbourhoods, which makes them easy to reach. This part of the city remains relatively quiet, thanks to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets.

Housing

Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. The substantial percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this part of Calgary is an important part of its character. A majority of the housing growth in this neighbourhood has occurred after the year 2000. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
