Dixie

Part of the Greater Montreal metropolitan area, Dixie is a neighbourhood within Montréal, Quebec.

Transportation

The best transportation option in Dixie is very often a car. It is a short drive to the closest highway, such as Autoroute du Souvenir, from anywhere in this area, and finding a place to park is quite easy. However, the public transit system in this neighbourhood is sometimes poor. Thankfully, residents can rely on the Gare Lachine on the 11 - Vaudreuil/Hudson. Property owners are served by a few bus lines, and most homes are very close to a bus stop. Dixie will attract physically active house buyers since it is quite suited for bicycling. In particular, cyclists do not face serious hills. However, this part of Montréal is not particularly conducive to those who travel by foot because common amenities such as liquor stores or laundromats can be an occasionally long walk away.

Services

It is very easy to reach the nearest supermarket on foot from most homes for sale in Dixie. There are also a few opportunities for those who value close by restaurants. With regards to education, it is a short walk to get to schools and daycares from anywhere in Dixie.

Character

The character of Dixie is exemplified by its calm atmosphere. The greenery in this area is reasonably prominent; reaching public green spaces from most locations in the neighbourhood, including Parc Stoney Point, is easy since there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to visit. Moreover, residents will find that there are many tree-lined streets. This area is also very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic close to the railway line or Autoroute du Souvenir.

Housing

Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. In this neighbourhood, roughly 60% of dwellings are single detached homes, whereas the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. This part of the city experienced its most significant construction boom prior to the 1960s, so most of the available housing stock is from this time period. This area also has quite a good choice of unit sizes - however this area is particularly good for those looking for three bedroom homes.
