Great Slave Lake is home of the Snowking Winter Festival, a month long winter festival that takes place in a snow castle made of only snow and ice.
Margot Kidder, known for playing Louis Lane in the 1970's and 1980's Superman movies, was born in Yellowknife.
Nahanni National Park Reserve is Canada's first natural world heritage site, inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978.
